Today, gardening is one of my secret weapons for combating sadness and anxiety or clearing my mind of daily worries and tensions.
Did you know that gardening is considered a form of active meditation? That’s right, gardening allows our minds to focus on nature, creating a moment of relaxation and harmony with our environment.
After reading this blog, I invite you to disconnect from electronic devices and redirect your energy towards connecting with nature, even if it’s just by caring for or planting a small plant.
Caring for a plant or maintaining a small garden at home establishes a direct connection with nature and fosters qualities such as responsibility and creativity.
Moreover, dedicating time to plant care, separate from work concerns or family issues, contributes to improving and balancing mental health. This is because it boosts, among other things, the production of serotonin – one of the neurotransmitters responsible for emotional stability.
If there’s something I enjoy as much as painting, it’s undoubtedly gardening! There’s an unmatched satisfaction in planting a seedling and witnessing how, with adequate care and affection, it gradually grows to unveil its beauty.
Like painting, gardening serves as a way to channel stress and anxiety. It also provides an opportunity for physical activity, mainly when dealing with a garden that requires maintenance and nurturing.
In essence, we’re not only tending to the well-being of our minds but also nurturing our bodies.
Whether you reside in a small apartment or work consumes much of your time, you can start with a plant like a cactus, which typically requires minimal upkeep and space.
Ensure you place it in an area with sufficient sunlight and water it lightly every two weeks.
You could cultivate a small vegetable garden home if you’re more ambitious. Here are some pictures of my journey; I began with zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes, basil, mint, and peppers, and I even grew avocados!
You can obtain seeds directly from the vegetables or fruits you consume. For example, if you have a tomato or bell pepper, you can let the seeds dry before planting them or purchase ready-to-plant seeds.
The experience of harvesting your own vegetables or fruits is incredibly fulfilling.
And if, like me, you have a fondness for flowers, explore your favorites and give it a try. Roses, pentas, papo, and chavelitas are some of my favorites, as depicted in the shared photos.
Tending to plants requires time and commitment; after all, they are living entities with specific requirements. However, I assure you that the joy and peace they bring to our days make the effort worthwhile.
